What is a pledge?
A pledge is an estimate of your giving for the coming year. It is not a contract; it is a statement of your intention. Periodically throughout the year, generally every three months, you will receive a statement from the church, reminding you of the amount of your pledge and showing your progress toward its completion.
What happens if my circumstances change?
Your pledge is a covenant between you and God and should be treated accordingly. But if circumstances require adjustments to your pledge, you are free to change it up or down.
Other people have supported the church until now. Why should I get involved?
Hudson Memorial has always been the kind of church that depends on the support of many, many people. The work of the church needs all of us. If you've been a part of things at Hudson Memorial but have not yet made a financial pledge, now might be the right time.
I've never made a pledge before. How much am I supposed to pledge?
This is a very individual matter, but there are some good guidelines to follow. Many people find the concept of proportional giving to be a meaningful part of their spiritual lives, returning to God a proportion of all God has entrusted to us. Proportional giving is the offering of a chosen percentage of our income.
The biblical guideline for proportional giving is a tithe, or 10%. Of that 10%, half or more should be offered to God’s work through the church, and the rest to God's work through other agencies and charities. If proportional giving is a new concept to you and you cannot tithe at this time, consider setting a lower % target such as 1% and faithfully increase your giving each year until you are tithing.
What do I do to pledge?
Complete the pledge card mailed to you and bring it to the church worship service on Consecration Sunday, November 18. If you cannot attend on November 18, drop it in the mail to the church, bring it to worship and place it in the offering plate, or complete your pledge on line by clicking here
Why should I pledge? I give money whenever I can.
We often speak about pledging and the benefits that it provides to the church. Providing certainty for our church leaders and staff as they seek to plan our ministry funding requirements is an important aspect of pledging. However, considering only this aspect of pledging does not fully capture its true rewards.
Pledging is much more about us and our covenant relationship with Christ. As Christians, we believe that God’s greatest gift to us is Jesus Christ our Lord, and so we should place God first in our lives. Pledging sets priorities in our lives. Making a commitment allows us to give in a regular and systematic way and becomes planned and not part of what is left over after other commitments are made.
Why can't I just give to special offerings?
We understand that it can be very meaningful to give to particular causes through special offerings. Supporting these special projects is an important part of living out our Christian faith. But since every cent goes to the special program for which it was designated, none of these special offerings does anything toward the ongoing support of the church and its core ministries. We are all stewards of Christ’s ministries at Hudson Memorial and we are called to faithfully support all of these ministries, not just certain special projects. |
